Pico is built so that as little as possible about you ever leaves your iPhone. There's no account, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and Pico has no servers of its own. This policy explains what Pico uses, where it's kept and the choices you have.
Who we are
"Pico", "we" and "us" mean the developer of the Pico app. If you have a question about this policy or your data, contact us using the details at the end.
The short version
- Your step count is read from Apple Health on your iPhone and never leaves it.
- Your Screen Time data stays inside Apple's Screen Time system. Pico can't see which apps you use or for how long.
- If you do push-ups or sit-ups for Energy, the camera picture is looked at live on your iPhone to count them. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent.
- Your progress (puzzle pieces, worlds, Energy and preferences) is stored on your iPhone and, if iCloud Backup is on, in your own iCloud account.
- Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
- We don't sell, share or rent your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Steps from Apple Health
With your permission, Pico reads your step count from Apple Health to turn walking into Energy, check your daily goal and show your walking history in Insights.
- Pico only reads steps. It never writes anything to Apple Health.
- Step counts are processed and stored on your iPhone only. They're never sent to us, never stored in iCloud and never shared with anyone.
- Health data is never used for advertising or marketing.
- You can turn off Pico's access at any time in the Health app, under your profile › Apps › Pico.
Screen Time and the apps you block
Pico uses Apple's Screen Time tools (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity) to block the apps you choose and to show your screen time.
- The apps you pick are stored as private tokens created by Apple. Pico can't read app names or details from them, and they stay on your iPhone.
- Screen time totals and your top apps are drawn on Pico's screens by Apple's own system. Pico itself never receives those numbers.
- You can turn off Pico's Screen Time access at any time in iOS Settings › Screen Time.
Camera for push-ups and sit-ups
If you choose to earn Energy with push-ups or sit-ups, Pico asks for access to your camera. It's only used while the exercise counter is open.
- Each camera frame is checked on your iPhone, using Apple's built-in body-position tools, to see your body and count push-ups or sit-ups. The frame is then thrown away.
- Pico never records, saves or sends video or photos. Only the number of push-ups and sit-ups is kept, as part of your progress.
- Pico asks for the camera only when you start an exercise, never before. You can turn off camera access at any time in iOS Settings › Pico.
Your answers and progress
The answers you give during setup (such as your goal, usual phone time, daily step goal and difficulty), and your progress in Pico (Energy, unlocks, puzzle pieces, worlds and your Home theme), are stored on your iPhone. They're used only to make Pico work for you.
iCloud Backup
If iCloud Backup is on (Settings › iCloud Backup), Pico keeps a copy of your progress in your own iCloud account, so it comes back if you reinstall Pico or move to a new iPhone.
- It includes your puzzle pieces, worlds, Energy, Home theme, preferences and a short record of recent days (Energy earned and spent, and whether you reached your goal).
- It never includes step counts or other health data, or the apps you block.
- It's stored by Apple under your Apple ID, and we can't access it. Apple's privacy policy applies to iCloud.
- Turning iCloud Backup off, or using Reset Pico, removes Pico's copy from iCloud.
Subscriptions and payments
Subscriptions are bought and managed through your Apple ID. Apple handles payment and billing, and we never receive your name, email address or payment details. Pico checks with the App Store on your iPhone whether your subscription is active.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Pico schedules them on your iPhone (for example, when an unlock is about to end or when you reach your daily goal). No notification data is sent to us.
What we don't do
- We don't collect your name, email address, location or contacts.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and Pico contains no third-party advertising or analytics code.
- We don't sell or share your information with anyone.
How long information is kept
Everything Pico stores on your iPhone stays there until you use Reset Pico or delete the app. Deleting the app removes it from your iPhone. If iCloud Backup is on, the copy in iCloud stays until you turn backup off, use Reset Pico, or delete Pico's data from iCloud in iOS Settings › your name › iCloud.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under UK and EU data protection law, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to how it's used. Because Pico keeps your information on your own devices and in your own iCloud account, you're in control of it directly: you can change your answers in Settings, turn off any permission, turn off iCloud Backup, reset Pico or delete the app. If you'd like help, contact us. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
Children
Pico isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for important changes, let you know in the app.
